Patients and families participated from a total of 10 Treatment Centers and one
Ohio Hemophilia Chapter. Participants were able to listen to Karin Gyger and
Lisa Ross from the State of Michigan, Department of Licensing and Regulatory
Affairs, Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation (OFIR). The OFIR
representatives explained how they can assist patients and families when they
have issues with their insurance regarding claims or denials for payment or
services. The OFIR representatives also explained the new Federal Health Care
Law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the key dates
patients and consumers should know about along with what benefits will be
available to assist consumers in the future.

Ivan Harner, Executive Director for HFM said “the Hemophilia Foundation of
Michigan is appreciative of the partnerships with the State of Michigan and the
Hemophilia Treatment Centers across Michigan, Indiana and Ohio as well as across
the nation. This will allow us to communicate important changes in the law,
administrative and program changes to our constituency. We will expand this
service as important information is received.”
