Uterine Cancer Kills 8,000 U.S. Women
OSCEOLA, Indiana, Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Tatum Ink – The most common
gynecologic cancer is uterine cancer, also called endometrial cancer. “This
year, 45,000 women will learn they have it; 8,000 will have it listed on their
death certificates,” says freelance journalist Rita Tatum, author of Sass cancer
Back: Living with Spirit (Xlibris: 2011).
“Many books offer hope for cervical and ovarian cancer warriors,” says Tatum,
who was diagnosed with stage 4 uterine cancer in 2006. “Far fewer address
endometrial cancer, even though it averages 10,000 more diagnoses annually than
the other two gynecologic cancers combined.”
Tatum’s book provides uterine cancer warriors an ordinary friend for their
journey. “I’m not rich; I’m not famous. I’m just like you,” says Tatum. She
shares what worked for her, namely a holistic approach as an equal, proactive
member of the oncology team.
Addressing newly diagnosed uterine cancer warriors, Tatum reassures them, “Your
mind, body and spirit are essential to this fight. The oncology team cannot win
without you.”
Tatum knows the terror a cancer diagnosis instills, but insists women rise above
it. “I know, others refer to cancer as the Big C,” she says. “As someone with
cancer, battling it minutely, I would say lower case that capital as often as
you can. It helps.”
For the mind, medical details about uterine cancer and clinical trials, as well
as surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatment information are presented in
an easily understood, often lighthearted style. Tatum provides questions to ask
for various treatments and hilarious perspectives on the patient-oncologist
relationship. For the body, Tatum shares tips and recipes for addressing
fatigue, appetite, pain and other physical issues cancer and its treatment
present. Her joyous spirit is protected by faith and prayers.
Filled with hope, confidence and refreshing laughter, Sass cancer Back is
available in paperback and e-book editions from publisher Xlibris and
booksellers worldwide.
