Radiotherapy Centers of Kentuckiana Reminds Local Residents of the Dangers of Smoking

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — This year alone, the American
Cancer Society estimates approximately 221,130 people in the U.S. will be
diagnosed with lung cancer and an estimated 156,940 people will die. In Kentucky
each year, approximately 77 percent of people die from the disease, while
approximately 63 percent of people die in Indiana. November is Lung Cancer
Awareness Month and Radiotherapy Centers of Kentuckiana reminds the community of
the dangers of smoking and encourages all local residents to mind their lungs,
their health and their loved ones, and quit.

“Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women and men,” said

Kentuckiana. “Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of breast, colon,
and prostate cancers combined.”

Smokers should also be mindful of their loved one’s health as secondhand smoke
increases risks for lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, an
estimated 3,000 nonsmoking adults will die each year of lung cancer from a noted
history of breathing secondhand smoke.

residents must encourage their loved ones to quit. This November please
