Contest, which took place from August 8 to September 18, 2011.

The grand prize winner of $15,000 is Leonard R. Flynn Elementary School in San
Francisco, Calif. The school is comprised of primarily low-income families that
have little or no access to arts activities outside of school. The goal for
Flynn is to raise funds for their arts and music programs in order to enrich the
students’ opportunities for creative growth and artistic expression.

academic results. This innovative approach aligns with the school’s three-tiered
educational model that includes core academics, project-based learning and
hands-on, experiential learning outside the classroom.

The third place winner of $5,000 is Waters Elementary in Chicago, Ill., which
will use the prize to teach the importance of “Earth Education,” including field
trips, science projects and the ongoing transformation of the school’s outdoor
space.
