Bloomberg Fundraiser in Manhattan Latest Example of Lugar Soliciting Support from Liberal Politicians, Says Hoosiers for Richard Mourdock, Inc.

From Gun Control to Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants to 1970′s Bailout of New York
City, Senator Lugar Has More in Common with NYC Liberals than Hoosier
Republicans

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Indiana State Treasurer
and U.S. Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock expressed his disbelief after
learning that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who bolted from the GOP in
2007 to become an independent, will be hosting a fundraiser at his upscale
Manhattan residence for Senator Dick Lugar on December 5th. The price to “Chair”
the event is $10,000.

“I am a little shocked but not completely surprised to learn that Senator Dick
Lugar is yet again soliciting assistance from another liberal politician in an
effort to fill his campaign coffers,” explained Treasurer Mourdock.

“So far this election cycle, Senator Dick Lugar has also received donations from
many current and former left-leaning Republican Members of Congress including
Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Senator Susan Collins of Maine, former Clinton
Administration Defense Secretary Bill Cohen and former Representative Mike
Castle of Delaware. Now, Senator Lugar is relying on someone who openly left the
Republican Party to help him raise campaign cash,” stated Christopher Conner,
Mourdock campaign spokesman.

Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Lugar share many political beliefs that are to the
left of most Indiana Republicans. Both of them are strong advocates of gun
control. Dick Lugar has repeatedly earned a “D+” from the National Rifle
Association and an “F” from the Gun Owners of America, and Michael Bloomberg
provided $3 million in seed money for an anti-gun group misleadingly called
Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Senator Lugar has been the co-sponsor and/or proponent of DREAM ACT legislation
in the U.S. Senate, which provides amnesty to children of illegal immigrants.
Mayor Bloomberg has previously declaredhis support for the legislation and gone
one step further by maintaining one of America’s largest “sanctuary cities”
where local authorities refuse to cooperate with federal immigration agents in
deporting illegal immigrants.

Mayor Bloomberg is also a staunch pro-abortion advocate, having publicly
statedthat on the issue of abortion, “you’re either with us or against us.”
Bloomberg, like Lugar, has been supportive of federally funded stem cell
research. Senator Lugar has been weak on the abortion issue by voting to support
the funding of stem cell research in the past and voting for all of President
Obama’s pro-abortion nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court.

When it comes to taxes and government spending, Mayor Bloomberg has recently
calledfor the raising of individual taxes across the board to help balance the
federal debt. Bloomberg previously supported huge property tax increases in New
York City. Ironically, Senator Lugar supported the notion of using taxpayer
dollars in the 1970′s for $1.65 billion in loan guarantees to assist with the
bailout of New York City.

“Now is the time for Senator Lugar to decide if he stands with New York liberals
or Hoosier Republicans. Out of respect for Hoosier Republicans, Senator Lugar
should cancel this event immediately,” explained Conner.
