CHLI’S Annual Awards Represent an Important Recognition from the U.S. Hispanic
Community

WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Congressional Hispanic
Leadership Institute (CHLI) announced today that it will be presenting
leadership awards to the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His
Excellency Ma Ying-jeou, and to Congressman Mike Pence (IN-06), Chairman of the
U.S. House Republican Conference. These awards are in recognition of their
respective accomplishments, friendship and support of the U.S. Hispanic
Community, the largest minority group in the U.S.

Leadership in International Relations Award to President Ma Ying-jeou of the
Republic of China (Taiwan) because of his extraordinary statesmanship in
international relations, his friendship with the United States of America, and
his leadership in the development of fraternal ties between the people of Taiwan
and the U.S. Hispanic community,” said Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL),
CHLI Board Chairman.

“The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute is bestowing its 2010 CHLI
Leadership in Public Service Award to Congressman Mike Pence because of his
exemplary service in the U.S. Congress, his great leadership of conservative
principles, and his extraordinary sensitivity toward and friendship with the
U.S. Hispanic community,” said Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL), CHLI Board
Chairman.

Previous CHLI leadership award recipients include former Prime Minister of Spain
Jose Maria Aznar, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Senator
Lindsey Graham (SC), Senator Robert Menendez (NJ) and former Speaker of the U.S.
House of Representatives Dennis Hastert. CHLI’s annual gala will take place on
May 20, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Numerous Members of Congress, from both
