AT&T Expands Mobile Broadband Wireless Capacity in Avon, Danville, Plainfield and Pittsboro

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Customers in Avon, Danville,
Plainfield and Pittsboro are expected to experience improved mobile broadband
and voice performance as a result of continued investment and innovation by
AT&T*. The company announced today that it has completed a key initiative in its
ongoing efforts to enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its mobile
broadband network throughout the area.

The network upgrades will boost capacity for local residents and businesses, as
well as for travelers along Highway 36 in Avon and nearby I-465; Highway 36 in
Danville; Highway 40 in Plainfield; and Highway 136 in Pittsboro.

“We are thrilled AT&T continues to invest in our communities,” said Cinda
Kelley-Hutchings, Executive Director of the Hendricks County Economic
Development Partnership. “The growth of Hendricks County has been due to an
intricate network of highway, air and rail transportation systems within a
pro-business environment. It is now coupled with an advanced, high-tech mobile
service. This new investment bodes well for our continued growth.”

The network enhancement adds new layers of frequency, also known as “carriers,”
to seven cell sites to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase
mobile broadband capacity. The expansion helps manage ever-growing demand for
mobile broadband services by allocating more network resources for AT&T’s mobile
broadband network.

“Hendricks County is a prime location for companies to invest and grow in
Indiana,” said AT&T Indiana President George S. Fleetwood. “The tremendous
leadership that has been shown by local officials and organizations like the
Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership is exactly why AT&T continues
to enhance our coverage here and invest in our customer experience.”

This network improvement is part of AT&T’s plan to invest in the $20-billion
range in its national wireless and wireline networks in 2011. AT&T invested more
than $225 million in its wireless and wireline networks from 2008 to 2010 in the
greater Indianapolis area and nearly $925 million statewide. This month, AT&T
also announced upgrades to its wireless network in Zionsville, Westfield, and
Sheridan; and in the Indianapolis airport area.

“We want our customers to have an extraordinary experience whether sharing
videos and photos, watching a movie, or keeping their business mobile on their
AT&T device,” said Brian Ducharme, vice president and general manager for AT&T
Indiana and Michigan. “As part of Hendricks County, we’re always looking for new
opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in
the local wireless network is just one way we’re accomplishing that.”

“In addition, our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA will
strengthen and expand our network in Indiana,” Ducharme added. “If approved,
this deal means that we’ll be able to expand the next generation of mobile
broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population
to more than 97 percent.”

AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most
widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the best
international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice
service in more than 220 countries and data service in more than 200 countries.

AT&T also operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network** with nearly 27,000
hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 190,000 hotspots globally
through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our
entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t
count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.

AT&T recently launched “Focus: Indianapolis,” which provides visitors a peek
into AT&T’s wireless network enhancements made since the beginning of the year.
Enhancements include new cell sites, broadband speed upgrades, capacity upgrades
and network connection upgrades. The site also provides a map of area AT&T
